PART 1-Leave it all behind and go west young family.
We asked ourselves; What if we left our mountain postcard paradise and moved to Vancouver Island? How would we make it work? What will the kids think of it all?
And so it began. We booked a flight from Calgary to Victoria, rented a car and drove up island. Our destination; Nanoose Bay and central Vancouver Island region.
We were totally mezmerized ! The Pacific Ocean was calling us back, a gentle reminder of what we were missing which begged the question; why couldn’t we experience such joy on a daily basis as opposed to our annual Baja winter escape?
There were so many reasons not to rock the boat, stay the course and be happy in the picturesque Rocky Mountain town of Banff, Alberta. We both had well established careers and businesses, our children were born and raised in such a safe environment, we had just moved into a sizeable property after renting out our starter home!
It had been well over 20 years living in this postcard, a lifetime of beautiful memories, friends that have become family, however the tolls of extended winters and the enduring punishment of mountain sports had certainly taken it’s toll on Dad! This was only the tip of the iceberg and an adventurous spirit was now steering the Dalton ship. The adventure was about to begin…………..
